ENERGY-EFFICIENT RESIDENTIAL BUILDING EXTENSION,
Montan (BZ)
Elevated Living: Embracing the Heights
The existing residential structure underwent a thorough energy-efficient renovation and a complete internal redesign. A striking transformation occurred with the removal of the old gabled roof and the addition of a new residential floor featuring a flat roof.
Both the ground and upper floors underwent a comprehensive internal reconfiguration. Notably, the staircase was relocated to the north side of the building and constructed as an extension using timber. The construction of the new attic floor also followed suit in timber construction, now serving as the building owners’ ‘topmost living level.’
The facade design cleverly blends various construction methods (existing vs. new, solid vs. wooden construction). This not only reflects the building’s transformation but also imparts visual structure to the compact building volume.
