SENIOR CENTRE ELLA
Vahrn (BZ)
Rethinking care
The new senior living residence follows the guiding principles of the Kuratorium Deutsche Altershilfe: private life – community life – public life. Set within the transitional landscape between orchards and urban development, the complex integrates harmoniously into its small-scale surroundings through four building volumes, each enclosing an internal courtyard. By creating micro-zones in which senior citizens live together as if in a large family community, the scale of the 120-bed facility is deliberately downplayed.
Public areas such as the café, canteen, outpatient clinics and entrance area invite visitors to connect the facility with the outside world. They enable residents to actively participate in social life and prevent the structure from becoming isolated. High quality of living, sustainable and energy-efficient construction, and advanced technical solutions such as geothermal energy and photovoltaics combine to create a forward-looking building concept.
